Hello friends, I hope you had a lovely weekend. I have been busy trying out various patterns which may be the reason I have not blogged as frequently as I really want to.
But unfortunately my crocheting has not gone as planned and I have frogged 3-4 projects recently as the results were not as expected. All the said projects have been for tops or boleros. For a long time now I have been wanting to make something wearable, something with measurements, something that is supposed to fit you. I know what you are thinking...there are tons of patterns out there. Yes, I know, but somehow the ones I like are on foreign language sites - Japanese or Russian with only diagrams for reference. So far I have not been successful in properly deciphering any of those patterns. Very frustrating and also a loss of precious time!! :(
Inspite of all this, my WIPs basket is overflowing with the dozen odd projects going on simultaneously. But enough about PhDs, now I want to show you the FO I promised the last time. Yes the crochet purse that I was working on.
I was going to show you the purse after finishing it up with a lining and zipper. But no... I have still not gotten over my fear of my sewing machine. And zippers!!!.....certainly on my bucket list but just not right now. :(
I knew I had to make it when I saw THIS PATTERN. The material is a cord, easily available in Mumbai as purse making cord. Also known as macrame cord. I used a 4.5 mm crochet hook.
The handle is a Pin-spiration i.e. an idea I found on Pinterest. It is made by braiding three cords and to make the cord I did 200 chains and then sc into each chain.
Here is a link to the TUTORIAL for the braid. If you are planning to use this method for a bag handle remember to make the cords a few inches longer than required as the resulting braid will be much shorter. My cords were 40 inches each and the resulting plait is 34 inches.
I am quite happy with the result of combining two different tutorials. What do you think?
Hmmm... a lining and zipper would really make this purse look so finished and lovely. Maybe I will give it a try soon.
And now, would you like a peep into my WIPs basket? Hehe...as if I need to ask!!
Any guesses what this might be?
I am not sure I have got the "heart" right, so will post about it after working on it some more. :)
So, what have you been up to? Do write to me. I love your comments (a big Thanks to all of you) and I really look forward to them.
If you come across a good pattern for a bolero do send me a link. Here's wishing you a happy successful week ahead.

That's a lovely purse Sangeetha - and I love the way you worked the handles - very nice. Could the aqua and white grannies be a little girls dress? :)
ReplyDeletehi... very nice yellow bag:) you did a good job on it:)
ReplyDeleteHello Sangeetha! You were missed :) Lovely bag..would look great with any saree i think.. The handle idea is also unique and great find..Hope you don't give up on the wearable crochet. I have lotsa tried ones but all are for toddler sizes...which i am not sure you need. Let me know the size n shall try and see if i have one pinned anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe WIPs looks yummy. Is it a granny frock?
What a nice bag. I love the braid. And the blue-white project: is it a dress for a little girl?

Hi Sangheetha,
ReplyDeleteThe yellow purse looks lovely.. I love the braided handle.. i have saved this purse pattern very long back in my fav list.. but i was planning to do it with yarn itself,, now inspired much to start it soon after seeing your finished product.. :)
Love the bag ! Beautiful color and pattern !
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week.
Anna
Very nice bag Sangeetha! :) I don't think a zipper is required, just a lining with press buttons should also be fine if you find difficulty in adding a zip. I too think that the granny square is a baby's dress:)
ReplyDeleteWow! The goldy purse is lovely. The cord is unique too. Its come out very nice Sangeetha. Lovely pics. WIP pic too is very attractive. Looks like its a baby frock.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sangeetha!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see your beautiful projects :) The purse looks awesome, the braid handles suit it very well. I agree with Preeti, that some nice big button will look better than zipper.
I think that that heart is some kind of a key ring :) Beautifully done!
Have a great day!
Anna
This is lovely Sangeetha. I too have this pattern in queue.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I recently got a sewing machine, but zippers & linings are suggested to be hand sewed. Give a try, it will be easy(especially when we are very scared :-) )
too lovely sangheetha.. you are genius..
ReplyDeleteLovely bag. I have also made a bag and still now it is not having zipper. I guess the granny square is a little girl's dress. Right?

ReplyDeleteIs the second one a beautiful little frock for a little one?
ReplyDeletenice bag..
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - that is so beautiful...and so neat. I know I will never be able to crochet as neatly as that! My tension is always too loose! Maggie xx
ReplyDeleteLovely bag sangeetha... Like the pattern tooo.........
ReplyDeleteHello my friend,
ReplyDeleteThis is as you said a have-to-make! You are so clever to use two different sources together. Every single thing you do is so beautiful.
Heart and hooks,
Boo
beautifully created...
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing
Your purse is beautiful!! Love the color!
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty crocheted things! Wow! Have a great weekend:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful creation! Sangeetha, I think instead of adding a zipper, you can make a loop and add a button. This is just my personal opinion. It looks great even otherwise!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the FO! :) I really know what its like to have a pile of UFOs! I'm currently working on two blankets (one large, one baby sized and a hat!)
ReplyDeleteVery well done! Love the yellow
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bag! I think I will try this purse yarn. I was not sure about the yarn, never used it. But your purse looks so perfect, I got to try this one! :)

ReplyDeleteSusan
Your purse is just so beautiful :-) love it. and I even love the colour and the yarn you have used. I will surely try it out , but I dont know whether I will get a similar yarn at my place :(
ReplyDeleteThe purse is stunning! I understand that garment frustration as I too would like to hook myself a nice top but am worried that I will also end up frogging and frogging instead of completing anything.
ReplyDeletecan anyone explain this to me "on the back loop of the ch, ch 3, sl st to the 3rd ch of the first ch3 sp to join. (22 ch4 clusters, 2 ch3 spaces)" I just don't git it, sorry I'm just beginner. Hope you anyone can help me. Thank You.
ReplyDeleteHi Allyx,
DeleteI will try to answer your query here as I cannot trace your email id.
The first row is Chain 44.
In the second row Make 3 dc in the 4th chain from hook - in one loop only, then * skip 3ch, 4dc in next chain* repeat this till you reach the end of the first row. Now make 3 chains, turn and start working in the loops that we did not use, known as the back loops * skip 3ch, 4dc in next chain* repeat this till you reach the end of the chain. Now make 3 chain and join with slip stitch to the chain on top of the 3 chains we left untouched when we "made 3 dc in the 4th chain"
So now you have eleven cluster of 4dc on each side of the foundation row and plus two loops of 3 chain at the 2 ends.
I hope this helps. To know what is a back loop read this post http://www.crochetkari.com/2012/09/potholder-pattern-and-tutorial.html
What a lovely bag. Thanks so much. I have to try this pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern so much. You said you used a 4.5mm hook – did you use bulky weight yarn as well?
ReplyDeleteOMG I love this purse. Yellow is a favorite too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing.
Multumesc mult! Foarte, foarte interesant si foarte util!
ReplyDeleteLove this purse pattern. I was wondering what size macramé cord you used.
ReplyDeleteI was looking a size 4mm but thought maybe I should use 6mm. Please let
me know as I am ready to make this purse.
Thanks,
Darlene
Hi Sangeeta. Loved your yellow crochet bag. I'm crocheting a macrame chord bag. I'm likely to run into trouble at the finish. I do not know which needle to use while weaving the ends. Please let me know how I can crochet the ends with a macrame chord. Thanx.
ReplyDeleteHi Sangeeta. Loved your yellow macrame bag in crochet. I'm making one with red macrame chord. I'm wondering how to weave the ends with a crochet needle. It's not possible. So do let me know which needle I can use. Thank.s.
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteThanks what a beautiful bag. As a fairly new crocheter, I would dearly LOVE someone to make a tutorial of the bag itself! I've had a couple of cracks at it and keep getting stuck at the end of row 2 where you join to the 3rd chain of the first ch3 sp - does this mean joining as a circle as the first ch3 is on the opposite end of the work as far as I can see?? I'm stuck and its annoying. Thanks :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Helen, You are right, the purse is crocheted in a circle.
DeleteI really like this post
