Hello friends, I hope you had a lovely weekend. I have been busy trying out various patterns which may be the reason I have not blogged as frequently as I really want to.
But unfortunately my crocheting has not gone as planned and I have frogged 3-4 projects recently as the results were not as expected. All the said projects have been for tops or boleros. For a long time now I have been wanting to make something wearable, something with measurements, something that is supposed to fit you. I know what you are thinking...there are tons of patterns out there. Yes, I know, but somehow the ones I like are on foreign language sites - Japanese or Russian with only diagrams for reference. So far I have not been successful in properly deciphering any of those patterns. Very frustrating and also a loss of precious time!! :(
Inspite of all this, my WIPs basket is overflowing with the dozen odd projects going on simultaneously. But enough about PhDs, now I want to show you the FO I promised the last time. Yes the crochet purse that I was working on.
I was going to show you the purse after finishing it up with a lining and zipper. But no... I have still not gotten over my fear of my sewing machine. And zippers!!!.....certainly on my bucket list but just not right now. :(
So here is the Golden Yellow Crochet Purse:
I knew I had to make it when I saw THIS PATTERN. The material is a cord, easily available in Mumbai as purse making cord. Also known as macrame cord. I used a 4.5 mm crochet hook.
The handle is a Pin-spiration i.e. an idea I found on Pinterest. It is made by braiding three cords and to make the cord I did 200 chains and then sc into each chain.
Here is a link to the TUTORIAL for the braid. If you are planning to use this method for a bag handle remember to make the cords a few inches longer than required as the resulting braid will be much shorter. My cords were 40 inches each and the resulting plait is 34 inches.
I am quite happy with the result of combining two different tutorials. What do you think?
Hmmm... a lining and zipper would really make this purse look so finished and lovely. Maybe I will give it a try soon.
And now, would you like a peep into my WIPs basket? Hehe...as if I need to ask!!
Any guesses what this might be?

ReplyDeleteHello Sangeetha! You were missed :) Lovely bag..would look great with any saree i think.. The handle idea is also unique and great find..Hope you don't give up on the wearable crochet. I have lotsa tried ones but all are for toddler sizes...which i am not sure you need. Let me know the size n shall try and see if i have one pinned anywhere.

Very nice bag Sangeetha! :) I don't think a zipper is required, just a lining with press buttons should also be fine if you find difficulty in adding a zip. I too think that the granny square is a baby's dress:)

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see your beautiful projects :) The purse looks awesome, the braid handles suit it very well. I agree with Preeti, that some nice big button will look better than zipper.
I think that that heart is some kind of a key ring :) Beautifully done!

ReplyDeleteBtw, I recently got a sewing machine, but zippers & linings are suggested to be hand sewed. Give a try, it will be easy(especially when we are very scared :-) )

ReplyDeleteBeautiful creation! Sangeetha, I think instead of adding a zipper, you can make a loop and add a button. This is just my personal opinion. It looks great even otherwise!

The first row is Chain 44.
In the second row Make 3 dc in the 4th chain from hook - in one loop only, then * skip 3ch, 4dc in next chain* repeat this till you reach the end of the first row. Now make 3 chains, turn and start working in the loops that we did not use, known as the back loops * skip 3ch, 4dc in next chain* repeat this till you reach the end of the chain. Now make 3 chain and join with slip stitch to the chain on top of the 3 chains we left untouched when we "made 3 dc in the 4th chain"
So now you have eleven cluster of 4dc on each side of the foundation row and plus two loops of 3 chain at the 2 ends.

ReplyDeleteThanks what a beautiful bag. As a fairly new crocheter, I would dearly LOVE someone to make a tutorial of the bag itself! I've had a couple of cracks at it and keep getting stuck at the end of row 2 where you join to the 3rd chain of the first ch3 sp - does this mean joining as a circle as the first ch3 is on the opposite end of the work as far as I can see?? I'm stuck and its annoying. Thanks :-)
